Week #4 - The Notice

Welcome to my week 4 blog post!

Let's recap, I have been walking 5km's per day that I don't work and doing push-ups with an increase of 1 per week starting off at 10. I'm up to 10km's walked this week and 13 push-ups per day. The reason I don't walk on days I work is because 1.) My work days total approx. 14hours (12hour shifts plus the usual over-run and 1 hour commute time) 2.) During my shift I am usually fairly active. 3.) By the time I get home I have to either get homework done or log into lecture for the day. So my time is extremely limited on work days.

Now, without specifically talking about this genius hour blog project with my partner at work, He randomly said " Hey, you really seem to be in a better mood overall lately!" HA! Imagine that, maybe there is something to be said for walking daily. As I alluded to in my last posts, I am feeling better, but did not really have any indications my mood was improving. I did notice I wasn't as annoyed carrying equipment, and I wasn't as tired. I did however feel a little agitated with some of the calls (more of the usual non emergency related calls)

As for actual measurable affects on Blood pressure, cholesterol etc. I am not currently doing any blood tests to measure and compare. however, just another anecdotal point to point out, was that I measured my blood pressure this past Thursday and it sat at 125/82. Now, most times when I initially get my blood pressure taken I feel anxious during the reading (white coat syndrome) so my BP is artificially elevated in the 140's; 150's even. This time I didn't feel as anxious so maybe it's a combination of anxiety and the increased activity.

Next week, I will try and track my blood pressure a little bit more to get a better trend, and see where i'm at. I'll keep you all posted as to what my partner or any other coworkers may say - good or bad, and I'll continue to monitor personal feelings.

Till next time, cheers!
