Week #6 - It's not Goodbye, It's see you later
This has been quite the journey! I can't believe We (my classmates and I) have already made it to the very end. It seems like yesterday I was joining my first virtual sync class and beginning to think about what I am going to be doing for Genius hour.
My motivation for doing this was to improve not only my quality of life, personal, mental and physical health but those around me. My, wife, my niece and nephew, parents etc. I fortunately, recognized that things were getting out of hand and that I needed a change. In the past I've tried to diets like the keto diet that was effective however I could not make it a long term commitment as I'd inevitably fail. I've also tried getting back into the gyms but with Covid and lockdowns combined with my irregular work schedule, consistency was always an issue.
I decided to eat a slice of humble pie and realize I'm not where I used to be and cannot expect results similar to back in the day where I was playing high level sports. So, low impact, easy to attain, and effective was what I was looking for, Walking! I wouldn't have to worry about feeling embarrassed about how far I could or couldn't run/jog. I wouldn't feel extremely exhausted like a generally would after a workout. For strength I resorted back to an exercise I was all too familiar with, Push-ups. It's a great full body work out that you don't need any equipment for. So, I began. I successfully managed to walk 5kms per day and start at 10 push-ups for the first week, adding 1 per week. after the first week I could feel myself gaining my strength back and feeling more energetic. Mentally, my mood had improved but this was harder to notice. I had a couple of bad calls (at work) which put me off. Still, I go on. I am in this for the long term whatever that means - hopefully I can continue to walk and push up forever. That's the plan anyhow.
As this is my last blog post, please feel free to comment to check in at a later date to see how I'm doing. So it's not goodbye, it's see you later. Stay safe, stay healthy and good luck to you!
